Bharat Milap, meaning the “meeting of Bharat,” refers to the historic reunion between Lord Rama and his brother Bharat after Lord Rama’s 14-year exile. According to the Ramayana, when Lord Rama was exiled to the forest due to his stepmother Kaikeyi’s wishes, Bharat, his brother, was heartbroken. He refused to accept the throne of Ayodhya, which was rightfully his, and instead, he went to seek Lord Rama in the forest to bring him back to the kingdom. The touching reunion between the brothers, where Bharat placed Lord Rama’s sandals on the throne to symbolize his respect and devotion, is what Bharat Milap commemorates.
